Teaching God’s Word To Our Children

By:  Betty Predmore

Once we realize our obligation as mothers to teach God’s wisdom to our children, we soon realize that this is not always an easy task.  It is one that requires us to make some serious decisions about our commitment to Christ and to raising our children according to God’s will.

We must take note of the fact that God has given us this role as “teacher” in our homes.  We need to start as early as possible to plant His word into our children’s hearts and into our homes.  We have a great opportunity to spend time reading the Bible with our children, no matter how young they are.  We can work with them to memorize scripture.  We have the privilege of praying WITH and FOR our children every day.  These words of God that we ingrain in our children’s hearts will stay rooted in them and be helpful tools for helping them deal with issues that come in to their lives as they grow.

The key point to remember is that we cannot share with others what we do not have.  So we must be diligent in keeping our hearts and minds filled with the things of God.  We must seek him daily through prayer and Bible study.  We need to request His blessings each day so that we will be equipped with the love and knowledge we need to be the mothers He has called us to be.
