Doing Right

imageBut he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6
Pride…it is a wicked emotion. We have all heard the old adage “Pride comes before the fall.” It is pretty safe to say that if you let your pride govern you, if you let pride dictate your words and actions, you WILL fall.

Why are we always so concerned with being right? Why is that self-satisfaction so rewarding to our fleshly selves? When we walk in the flesh, being right holds such a high level of importance in our lives. It affects us in our homes, in our family relationships, in the workplace, and in all we do.

What a wonderful world this would be if we could all put our focus on DOING right instead of BEING right. If we could all live with the humility, love, and compassion of Jesus, wouldn’t this world be a better place? If we could live a life to serve and aid others, instead of the self-serving way we tend to live, we could do so much good and make such a statement for Christ.

God is not pleased with our pride. He is pleased with our humility. He is not pleased with our numerous justifications on why we are right. He is more concerned with the hearts of the humble, who are willing to give and receive grace. Don’t waste your precious days striving to BE right. Spend them like Jesus did, DOING right to others, and pleasing his Heavenly Father.

A friend often points out to me that most issues we have with people (and ourselves) come from either pride or fear…

Ah, yes. If we could only move forward through life operating out of a God-grounded confidence, and humility. I’m still working on that. 🙂
